Day 14: Saturday April 26
Heading to Fort Stockton, TX
Distance: 310 miles: Time: 4:17
Distance to Date: 1,426 miles
Route Taken: We headed south on Roosevelt Ave to SW Military Blvd. From there we drove west to pick up I-35 North which joined I-10 west. Then we drove and drove til we got to Fort Stockton.
Aren't the interstates here crazy??
You can choose upper or lower levels!
Natalie getting some schoolwork done. Nana, daydreaming out the window....
Lovely rolling hills. Beautiful.
This was truly and wonderful drive. It was just so long...
Starting to move into more hills and limestone formations (I think?)
We had the camera ready around every bend in the road to take the next great picture.
I'm driving, so Dad's taking pictures. Notice the bug on the windshield?
I felt like we were climbing our way out of Texas today.
All day, uphill.
I think I can. I think I can. I think I can....
Finally, the view for miles and miles around. Notice there's one that looks like a volcano?
Believe it or not. This is the road to the RV Park in Fort Stockton.
Yep. Not much there.
Our overnight home.
Doesn't look too bad, right?
You didn't see the bathrooms!
Day 15: Sunday April 27
Fort Stockton to Carlsbad, NM
Distance: 155 miles: Time: 2:30
Distance to Date: 1,581
Route Taken: We headed back on I-10 west for a few miles and picked up hwy 285 north. We drove through Pecos, NM and Loving, NM before coming into Carlsbad, NM. The wind was so bad, it was pushing us all over the road.
Winds gusts were up to 50 miles per hour. Too bad it was moving across us from the left and not pushing us from behind!
New Mexico landscape.
City streets of downtown Carlsbad.
Our new home for the next few days. Lovely RV park. Very nice folks and wonderful hot showers that are actually very, very clean!
We got into the park and set up the RV in no time flat. So, Natalie and I decide to set out and explore the surroundings a bit.
We drove south on 285 for about 7 miles and found the
Living Desert Museum and ZOO!
How cool it that!
So, we went in.
This is what we found there.
Eagles.
Parrots.
Gypsum
Beautiful blooms.
You can check out more here at Living Desert Museum and Zoo.
